About The Event
***Due to the current situation surrounding COVID-19, this event has been postponed until further notice.
Touting a litany of untold stories from inmates at Denver Women’s Correctional Facility, Davey and the Blu Dog is excited to bring you the voices of the voiceless during this powerful showcase of real life blues music written from a jail cell. Much like how this historical genre offered hope, camaraderie and a voice to an oppressed population in the American South, these songs from the Blues Behind Bars program aim to empower incarcerated individuals by giving them a medium with which to tell their story and a platform from which to share it.
At the BBB workshops, inmates of DWCF learn about the powerful healing properties of blues songwriting and practice telling a good, true story. These inmates have discovered creativity, art and music can offer the only tools adequate to understand the depth of their realities and potential to heal—and we think you will find the same.
Brought to Dazzle in partnership with the Imagine 2020 cultural fund, Denver’s plan to increase accessibility, integration and lifelong learning in the multi-cultural landscape of the city, this Songs From Behind Bars showcase will tell a story you won’t hear anywhere else. Don’t miss it.
